    Misc. Parks and Greenspace Projects

No question there seems to be an imbalance between operational and capital expenditures by the City, and I am certainly not taking issue with that. There are plenty of capital projects that could/should be de-prioritized, but we constantly have this discussion whenever any money is spent on bike...

    Misc. Parks and Greenspace Projects

Many have hit the nail on the head above. If we keep doing what we've been doing -- building huge, expensive roadway projects -- we're going to get the city we already have. There are never going to be enough overpasses to make the city livable and attractive. A different approach is needed and...

    Misc. Parks and Greenspace Projects

Complaining about the city and then dumping on doing anything new or different. Truly the most Edmonton thing you can do.

    Canada and Monarchy

I suppose the other thing to consider is the impact of moving from a hereditary head of state (represented in Canada by an appointee) to a presidential republic. Much like a triple-E senate, electing a president would give that office a democratic mandate that the current appointed GG does not...

    Edmonton | Tower 101 | 175m | 50s | Regency Developments | DER + Associates

With respect, you seems to be confusing the desired result with the process to get there. I don't disagree that this site looks terrible and there should not be incentives for property owners to demolish buildings to reduce their tax burden. I also agree that the status quo isn't great. The...

    Edmonton | Tower 101 | 175m | 50s | Regency Developments | DER + Associates

I suppose the problem is that what seems simple from the outside is often much more complex. Issuing a development permit is an administrative decision, not contractual. If the city does not follow it's own bylaws in deciding where and when to issue permits, it can be appealed. This is a...

    Edmonton | Tower 101 | 175m | 50s | Regency Developments | DER + Associates

If the city or a developer isn't following the law there is a process, but that isn't what you were proposing. You suggested that the city contractually bind developers to avoid having to deal with problems in the MGA. One would think encouraging the city to use its discretion whenever it wished...

    Edmonton | Tower 101 | 175m | 50s | Regency Developments | DER + Associates

Not that I disagree with the concept, but I don't imagine the courts would take kindly to the City contractually preventing a developer from demolishing a building that would otherwise be permitted under the applicable bylaw. Everyone has to follow development rules, including the city.

    Edmonton | Prairie Sky Gondola | 76.2m | ?s | Prairie Sky | DIALOG

What the City needs to do now is starting working with Indigenous communities to survey the area and develop a plan. They failed to take any meaningful action and then torpedoed a private company that was prepared to take the lead. Now that they've said no, they are responsible for doing the...

    Miscellaneous

Isn't this sort of like the anti-bicycle arguments we hear again and again? "No one bike's there, so we don't need to do anything about the 6-lane car sewer." We should be building the city that we want, so if we want a place that is walkable and attractive then all roads should be built to...

    Edmonton | Blatchford Development | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

But if that were true and the market had already spoken, wouldn't there be a large surplus of unsold homes/lots in Blatchford? The fact is that the homes in that neighbourhood have been selling at a significant premium to other products. I certainly am not trying argue this development has been...

    Edmonton | Blatchford Development | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Amazing that everyone in Edmonton wants to live in a beige box by a fake pond and drive to the nearest Sobeys! I don't really care that people in the development community aren't happy about Blatchford -- if their product truly is better then the market will bear that out.

Every time I drive by the RGC I think about how the Government gave $1m to a private club that I won't ever attend.

Jasper Avenue New Vision / Imagine Jasper Avenue

I know better than to try to argue with you, so let me apologize unreservedly for basically suggesting we crazy-glue concrete together and admit that you are completely right that whoever came up with this design is clearly an idiot that doesn't know what they're doing. 🧐

Jasper Avenue New Vision / Imagine Jasper Avenue

I don't think the problem in this case is the design or material choice. We should be able to chose designs that are attractive and elegant, not just utilitarian and super heavy duty. For me the real issue is maintenance. When damage occurs, which it inevitably will, the City needs to be able...

    Edmonton | 10123 106 Street | 155.14m | 50s | Westrich Pacific | Arc Studio

Is the point that the lot is empty? Are the parking machines removed? Is this a hint of something to happen soon with this parcel?

They should airbnb the cabins overnight - would be a very unique experience to sleep 100 feet in the air!

    Warehouse District Park

Let's do a municipal referendum. That should solve the question once and for all!
