Regional Transit

Transit is on the minds of councillors for the next meeting on Oct. 3. Knack has given notice of the following motion:

10.1 Edmonton Metropolitan Transit Services Commission - Further Follow-up (A. Knack)
Councillor A. Knack stated that at the next regular meeting of City Council, he would move the following:
  1. That Administration bring forward an assessment of the implementation of the Edmonton Metropolitan Transit Services Commission’s Phase One Service Plan with any relevant recommendations by Fourth Quarter 2023.
  2. That the Mayor, on behalf of Council, write a letter to regional members of the Edmonton Metropolitan Transit Services Commission stating that Edmonton is committed to the region and to regional collaboration for Phase 1.
  3. That Administration create a draft mandate letter to be provided to the Edmonton representative on the Edmonton Metropolitan Transit Services Commission that outlines clear expectations for consideration of Phase 2.
And Coun. Stevenson has given notice of the following motion:

10.2 Airport Express Service from Edmonton International Airport to Downtown Edmonton
(A. Stevenson)
Councillor A. Stevenson stated that at the next regular meeting of City Council, she would move the following:
That Administration prepare an unfunded service package for consideration during the 2023-2026 budget deliberations for the Edmonton Transit Service branch to add an airport express service from Edmonton International Airport to Downtown Edmonton.

Larger + great to see a new express/direct bus from Downtown to YEG as part of this plan.

The Metro North line should terminate at the Edmonton Garrison but I'll assume the ridership is too low to introduce it.

Makes sense to have a quick stop at the Botanical, that can also serve those in the area, reserve or not.

The Devon on Hwy 19 to EIA appears skewed on the map - making EIA and Leduc for that matter appear further south than they are or Deveon needs to be dropped down. I know its all a representation but it should be reasonably spatially accurate.
