O-day’min Park (formerly Warehouse Park)

I haven't looked back at the posts, but I recall the discussion involved fire pits and also hours of operation. Some people seemed to want a very uncontrolled space with few or no restrictions which may have worked elsewhere in a different time, but seemed idealistic to me in the current place and situation. So far, so good, perhaps in part due to the staff on site. The city seems to be taking security seriously here.
 
A simple noise complaint becomes difficult for police to investigate and "remedy" if the park were to remain open 24/7. It's too easy for offenders to deny a complaint brought forward against them. Offenders can claim that they aren't doing anything wrong and that they have the right to be in the park. Park hours that are stated gives the police grounds to kick people out of the park or arrest them if they refuse to leave.

The park is very nice and a great addition to the area. I find it strange though that it’s not really visible from Jasper ave. I work just off of 108 St and when I was telling colleagues about it most of them are not even aware it’s there. I think it would have been more aesthetically pleasing if those few blocks were visible from Jasper ave and more practical if there was a main entrance from Jasper ave.

106st becoming much nicer/useful once rebuilt and developments are added will help a lot.

And the 107st stubs from jasper and 102ave being finished next year will help too.

Once all the lots around it develop it’ll feel really natural, but yeah, currently there’s a weird sense of perimeter.

I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but I still want that parking lot in the NE corner of Jasper/107 St to become an extension of O-day'min Park c/w a water fountain.

It has good access from 107 Street, but it is unfortunate that it is not more visible from Jasper Ave and sort of hidden behind the two surface parking lots. If anything is ever built on them it may be even less visible.

That ship has sailed. A water fountain in a real park would have been nice but there isn't one being planned and who knows if there ever will be. Large spruce trees that offered shade in summer and could be dressed up with lights in the festive season would have been nice. Real park benches like the ones on the 100 Ave promenade would have been nice too. But nope, trees that lose their foliage and contribute to a windswept prairie landscape is what was decided on. And who needs park benches with back rests when you can hunch over to warm your hands at the fire pits. Bravo!

What great timing council had with the downtown CRL extension, considering it includes money to renew the downtown LRT entrances. Fingers crossed they do something to tie Corona with the park!
