A land development application received by the City earlier this summer will now be under the public microscope, with an open house tonight detailing plans for a residential and retail proposal on the site of the former Knox Metropolitan United Church.

The land at 8307 109 Street NW is being eyed for intensification in the form of a building approximately eight to nine storeys in height. Townhouse-style units would face 83 Avenue NW and a strip of ground-level retail would front 109 Street NW under the scheme.

The application includes a rezoning and amendments to the 109 Street Corridor Area Redevelopment Plan that outline the scope of the mixed-use building with a maximum height of 31 metres and up to 172 units. The proposal looks to double the allowable height of development on the lot, as the current redevelopment plan only allows buildings of up to four storeys.

The community is invited to have their say from 6 PM to 8:30 PM tonight in the Drama Room at the City Arts Centre (1943 - 84 Avenue NW). The open house provides interested residents with a platform to learn more about the proposal and leave their feedback to the City and the applicant. These comments will then be summarized in a report to council before a decision is made on the rezoning application.
