The City of Edmonton is soliciting interest from members of the public who want to play an integral role in community engagement as another major transit project pushes forward. The Capital Line South LRT Extension Community Advisory Committee (CAC) will consist of ten members appointed by community leagues, the South Edmonton Business Association, local schools, and William Lutsky YMCA, with an additional two community-at-large members.

In July 2008, council approved the concept plan for the south extension of the Capital Line. Preliminary engineering for the section of the proposed route from Century Park to Ellerslie Road was completed in 2010. In June, thanks in part to an influx of federal funding, the City began updating the preliminary design to align the project to current standards and reflect the principles of urban high-floor LRT. This work is currently scheduled to wrap up in fall 2018.

This portion of the line from Century Park to Heritage Valley will be roughly 4.5 kilometres long and includes an underpass at 23 Avenue and bridges at Blackmud Creek and Anthony Henday Drive. An operations and maintenance facility has been proposed just south of Anthony Henday Drive, and a combined LRT station, transit centre, and Heritage Valley park and ride facility is envisioned for Ellerslie Road between 127 and 135 streets.

The CAC will be tasked with providing information to the public, encouraging dialogue, and engaging citizens throughout the development of the LRT network. The City says the CAC's will paint a picture of affected neighbourhoods and "seek opportunities to minimize and mitigate impacts related to preliminary design, and future detailed design and construction."

In 2010, concept plans were approved for the portion of the plan stretching from Ellerslie Road to the southern boundary of the city at 41 Avenue SW. The alignment will include three additional stops. Despite the ongoing work, no funding or timeline for construction has yet been confirmed.
