Construction on the Premium Outlet Collection mall at the periphery of the Edmonton International Airport has been underway since 2016. The initial plan would have seen the shopping centre, developed by Ivanhoé Cambridge and Simon Property Group, open in the fall of 2017. But the yet-to-be-announced retailers will have some additional time to prepare their tenancies, with the development reportedly now expected to open on May 2, 2018.

Located next to the Queen Elizabeth II Highway and south of Airport Road, the sprawling 428,000-square-foot complex will contain spaces snatched by over 100 renowned brands, some of which are making their debut in the province.

Estimated to create 1,000 full- and part-time jobs, the development is being positioned as a potential tourist magnet under the vision prescribed in the 340-acre airport mnasterplan, harnessing the facility's intrinsic role as a gateway for the 6.5 million annual visitors to Edmonton. The airport, one of the busiest in the country, is also Canada's largest measured by land area.

The project was first announced back in 2013 with a significantly smaller footprint of 350,000 square feet. The low-slung complex then expanded its ambitions by adding more than 75,000 square feet of space to the mix.
