An open house is scheduled for Thursday, April, 6 when yet another highrise residential tower will be put under the public microscope. The latest proposal in a flurry of point tower developments concerns a string of properties at 9918, 9922, and 9930 111 Street NW in Oliver. A rezoning application asks for a change from a Direct Development Control Provision to a Site Specific Development Control Provision, allowing for a tower of 90 metres and approximately 30 storeys.

The proposal for the 173-unit tower was put forward by Westrich Pacific Corporation and Stantec. The plan seeks to replace a group of houses, though the site's current planning restrictions only permit a building of four storeys. Similar instances of upzoning are taking place across the city as amenity-rich neighbourhoods close to the core are identified as intensification hotspots by developers and planning staff.

In order to conform with the existing Oliver Area Redevelopment Plan, an amendment to the neighbourhood framework will be required. A closer look at the development will be provided at the meeting on Thursday, but until then, the rendering above paints a general picture of what to expect. The open house will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at Oliver School, located at 10227 118 Street NW.
