Back in February 2016, things weren't looking good for Toronto developer Brad Lamb's plans for two condo projects in downtown Edmonton. Due to Alberta's recent economic decline, it looked like the 36-storey Jasper House and the 45-storey North Condos would face a similar fate to several other recent projects slated for Edmonton and Calgary, and that these too would be put on hold until further notice.

Then late last year, Lamb Development announced a public consultation on January 25, 2017, at the Coast Edmonton Plaza Hotel to discuss rezoning the North Condos site for redevelopment. This has sparked rumours that the 45-storey architectsAlliance-designed residential tower may proceed sooner than previously believed.

Set for 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM on January 25 at the Glenora Room in the Coast Edmonton Plaza Hotel at 10155 105 Street NW, the public open house will seek to gain community input regarding the rezoning of the planned construction site for the project. Set to stand 126 metres in height, and to be home to 320 units with all parking underground, North Condos will necessitate the consolidation and rezoning of 10305 and 10321 106 Street NW in downtown Edmonton, a site that today hosts a long-standing surface lot.

For those interested in the project, attendance at the event may provide some further clues about the future of the development. At any rate, the mere fact that the meeting is occurring can be seen as a positive sign, with further news and details about the project hopefully coming forward in the near future.

SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as the story continues to develop. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
